हिमालै हिमाल: only mountains - posted on 10 october 2011

the images in these post are the ones i took over three days in dhulikhel. the skies had cleared up after more than a week of clouds and rain. blue skies, mountains turning from orange, to yellow to silver and back to yellow, orange, purple and white.. according to the time of the day.

day one in the afternoon.. just a bit hazy...
 dorje lakpa
 her majesty langtang
 gangchhengpo to dorje lakpa
langtang reflecting a bit of fading evening light
  phurbi ghyachu too
 evening sets in
'3-days short of full' moon rises
once the sunlight disappears from the sky
dawn of day two, eagles find a spot of warm draft to swirl upwards
panchkhal valley still blanketed in fog
 jaggedy chhoba bhamare
dorje lakpa catches the first rays of the morning sun
and passengers on this mountain flight are already up there to see the scene first hand
langtang also catches the first rays
as do the rest of the himals as they tower over the layers of other hills
bamboo leaves flutter in front of langtang

 the sky is lighting up
an odd shaped himal whose name i do not know
notice the little shiny speck one inch below the top right corner.. it is a plane above the khumbu area.. on a mountain flight
as the sun comes up higher the sky turn blue
fog is yet to lift from the valley
and now the himalayan peaks from langtang eastwards
gangchhempo in the front and the speckled hump at the back, 8K metre high shishapangma (in Tibet)

 and the peaks from afar
gauri and shankar cosy up together
a strange conical peak in the middle...
one day short of full moon

dusk creeps in ... helicopters returning with remainder of stranded passengers from lukla??

 himals turn pink

as does the sky on day three, with very high cirrus clouds...
fog reflects the colour of the sky
 ruddy clouds

eagles ride the upward draft once more
 a 'peak island'
the mountain still visible from just inside the valley and i head back home. beyond bhaktapur the mountains got hidden behind a dirty smoggy veil...
