the day today started out really clear and... cold of course.. but a shameful day to stay indoors! so ravi, kripa and myself went to virginia water to be close to nature... virginia water is the name of the lake that till the 1750s used to be a stream and which was later dammed...
of course by the time we went there.. clouds had crept up and usurped the blue skies.. and it was cold.. but then, as i am getting used to the weather on this island, it cleared up again and the sun shone warm, yellow and fuzzy...
the pictures contain the things that enthralled me... be it the trees, leaves, mistletoe, planes, birds, dogs.. or the lake!
on our way to virginia water
when we reached there we could still see the blue sky
... soon the clouds came rushing in...
leaves by the water edge...
.. there were birds on the water...
.. flying birds...
.. and being in close proximity to heathrow.. flying birds of the metal kind too. this one of course the emperor of aircraft.. the a380 !
...cropped up close... the emirates' double decker 'bird'
the lake and overhanging trees
such a wonderful combination--yellow and dark brown.. almost black..
chestnuts littering the forest floor...
yellow canopy
the 10m cascade, rebuilt in 1780 (original was built in the 1750s) after a violet storm in 1768 destroyed the original onea bit further up from here ...
ravi here has a funny concentrated look because he is taking a picture of me taking a picture of them!
fallen leaves and cascading water!
a beautiful combination of deciduous and coniferous trees in this protected area that is southern edge of the windsor great park...
the day turned cold very suddenly.. cold and dark...
nearly everyone who came to the park had a dog or two along with them.. and all of the dogs seemed to want to jump into the water.. so many 'landing' tiny beaches-- filled with doggy pugmarks-- for them all over the place...
these two labradors jumped again and again trying to fetch a piece of wood thrown in by their human friend.. the black one always swam faster than the cream one.. but would go through the whole exercise over and over again, nevertheless!
.. more dogs...
.. a huge one...
.. and a bridge over calm waters..
berries and leaves
reflections
kripa neath changing leaves
kripa goes searching a spot where we can sit and have sandwiches
we walked beneath yellowed beech leaves...
.. such colours...
fallen oak leaves
kripa finds a perfect bench ... a fallen tree
.. and then the sun shone through.. the winds died down.. and the weather just became picnic perfect...
my mistletoe
.. and crisscrossing contrails...
stripey twins!
kripa eating and me probably looking for a plane...
the sun coming out made all the difference to the colours
strange growth on this fallen leaf...
this holly plant (always been fascinated with these plants after having seen them featured in treasured 'christmas' cards as a child). .patch of green amongst the brown...
my mistletoes silhouetted against the fading light
these corinthian pillars are said to be over 2000 years old from a roman town in north africa.. and were transported to england in the early 1800s and set up in this place in 1826-7.
kripa concentrating on her driving as we head back
. drive. and a little detour.. as we around the royal holloway (college) under the university of london.. such a beautiful victorian building inaugurated in 1886
such grandeur...
so many turrets and towers...
the sun dipping over the horizon as we make our way back home...
.. what a day! :)
